This mares’ handicap hurdle is quite open and really looks as though it’s going to be one of the top four in the market, Redwood Queen, Flight Of Freedom, Golden Glance or Grivetana.
Flight Of Freedom’s form hasn’t exactly been boosted by those finishing behind her on her seasonal debut victory and can easily be sided against for that reason at just 3/1 which doesn’t offer much value.
Redwood Queen is making her first run in Britain for the first time since October 2022 and has put in reasonable efforts in Ireland since.
She steps up in trip for the first time and back on British soil may prove tricky on what is good going at Hereford on Wednesday.
Grivetana has a huge chance as a result, especially if just for an each-way punt, as she has Olive Nicholls on board to take off a crucial 7lb while also returning the second time since having a wind op.
She has run in Class 2 company and has dropped down to a very handy mark which can all be signs to some improvement this time out, for the in-form trainer.
But you also wouldn’t want to completely rule out Golden Glance who placed a close seventh behind Under Control in the Grade 3 Juvenile Hurdle at Cheltenham in April and may have needed the run last time out.

1.00: Overcourt and Young Buster combination exacta (1pt)
Overcourt was the first horse to stand out and he’s had trouble finishing races well enough to get that long awaited chase victory.
His last two efforts have come on soft and heavy respectively over 2m4f and 2m, but each time he’s not had enough to contend with the eventual winner.
Young Buster on the other hand, switched to fences in May and won on chase debut for trainer Fergal O’Brien and he returns for the first time this season on the back of two wins earlier this season.
Overcourt raced here twice in December 2021 before going on a 654 days break and clearly suits the track well enough to suggest he has enough to finally get in the winners’ enclosure.
Young Buster will be dangerous if he’s sharpened up his jumping which is more than likely considering his top yard and he was switched quite quickly from hurdling to fences.
3.20: Conquredalofeurope 11/2 each-way (1pt)
Looks to have the more consistent form over fences and stamina trips at that.
Has only been seen over 3m+ since February 2022 in eight contests where he’s yet to win, but competed in some tough Class 2 handicaps and even the 4m Marathon Handicap Chase in March.
But he does go well on similar tracks to this and may have some improvement about him on his second run of the season especially up against many other rivals who are also without a win for a while.

12.40: Chapel Green 7/2 (NAP – 2pts)
This is an interesting novices’ chase for these six-year-olds and the four-year-old Jipcot.
It’s Chapel Green that looks to have the best form over fences if you can forgive that random below par run last time out but has been away for a month since and suits this track and the conditions too.
He won on his chase debut and that form worked out quite well too so he certainly has more promise than some other rivals who struggled over fences on their first attempts on their season debuts.
1.50: Snipe 2/1 (1pt)
Snipe also won on his chase debut earlier this season, beating Swapped by just over two lengths.
Before placing fifth just three weeks later behind Any News as the 11/4 favourite.
That’s good form behind that kind of a horse and since returning this season has looked much better for the Skeltons. Arguably well handicapped too.
2.25: The Village Way 13/8 (1pt)
The Skeltons also have The Village Way as the favourite in the novices’ hurdle over 2m in the race after.
They’ve had many more hurdle runners this season, as they usually do, and could be on to something with this horse, who is expected to be better than the current standard set by Toonagh Warrior who placed second just three weeks ago.
He placed second on both of his point races in Ireland and subsequently went over to Warwickshire and looks the sort to win on debut – though market will be quite indicative on his chances as we approach the off.
