Canadian Screen Awards nominations by network – Broadcast Dialogue

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (the Canadian Academy) has unveiled this year’s Canadian Screen Awards nominees.

By network, CBC/Radio-Canada and its creative and production partners received a leading 288 nominations, including 27 for CBC News in 20 categories, seven of those for The National, the most nominations for any news program, and nods for The Fifth Estate and Marketplace. The CBC News Explore FAST channel received four nominations, with CBC News Network garnering two nods and CBC regional news program securing eight, including Vancouver (2), Winnipeg (2), Calgary (1), Montreal (1), Newfoundland and Labrador (1) and Toronto (1). CBC Sports received six nominations, including four for its weekly CBC Sports Presents.

Bell Media productions secured 165 nominations across television and digital categories, while Crave-supported films received 84 nominations. CTV News secured a total of 14, led by CTV National News with Omar Sachedina, which received four nods including Best National Newscast; Best News Anchor, National for Sachedina; and two for Best National Reporter for Adrian Ghobrial and Judy Trinh. W5 received four nominations, including Best News or Information Series, and Best Host or Interviewer, News or Information for host Avery Haines. Vassy Kapelos also received a nod in the same category for CTV’s Question Period, and a nomination for CTV News Channel’s Power Play with Vassy Kapelos for Best Political News Program or Series. Additional nominations include two for CTV Toronto’s CTV News at Six, including Jon Woodward for Best Local Reporter. TSN earned a total of 17 nominations. Bell Media Studios series and specials are nominated for 13 awards this year, with ETALK receiving nominations for Best Host, Talk Show or Entertainment News, and Best Entertainment News Program or Series.

Corus Entertainment earned a total of 65 nominations. Global News was recognized with seven nominations including Best National Newscast for Global National, Best National News Anchor for Dawna Friesen, Best National Reporter for Neetu Garcha, Best Local Newscast for Global BC’s Global News Hour at 6, and Best Local Anchor for Global BC’s Chris Gailus and Sophie Lui.

Rogers Sports & Media received 32 nominations, including 18 for Citytv, and 14 for Sportsnet, including four talent nods for Hockey Night in Canada with nominations for Best Sports Host for Ron MacLean, Best Sports Play-by-Play Announcer for Chris Cuthbert, Best Sports Analyst for Kevin Bieksa, and Best Sports Analyst for Jennifer Botterill. OMNI TV secured one nomination for the ensemble cast of its sketchy comedy series, Abroad.

APTN garnered 30 nominations, including 19 for Little Bird; a nod for Dennis Ward for Best News Anchor, National for Remembering the Children: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation; and nominations for Best News or Information Series for APTN Investigates
and Best News or Information Program – APTN Investigates: Buried Truths.
